Aco was a Dalmatian Serb and World War II freedom fighter. He was a defender of his Serbian Orthodox faith and a staunch anti-communist. He was much loved and will be missed by all.

A funeral was held Saturday, April 8, 2000,  for Alexander Kasich, 3555 Mount Hickory Boulevard, Hermitage, Pennsylvania. He died at 12:18 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2000 after being in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. He was 78.

Mr. Kasich was born November 9, 1921, in Sibenik, Dalmacija, Yugoslavia, to Jovan and Ana Jakelic Kasich. He graduated in 1941 after eight years of Gimnazija in Split, Yugoslavia, where he earned highest honors. He emigrated to the United States February 20, 1950, and attended drafting classes at Shenango Campus of Pennsylvania State University, Sharon, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Kasich retired in 1984 after 28 years as a project engineer for the former Greenville Steel Car Company.

An Army veteran, he served in the Yugoslav Royal Chetniks under the command of General Draza Mihailovic and Vojvoda Momcilo Djujic during World War II. After the war, he was the commander of two civilian camps near Hamburg and Kiel, Germany.

Mr. Kasich was past secretary for the Serbian National Defense and a member of the Serbian National Federation "Vidovdan" Lodge 68, both Farrell, Pennsylvania where he served as president and financial secretary.

He also belonged to the movement of Serbian Chetniks, Ravna Gore and the Serbian Home, both Farrell, Pennsylvania

A member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Mr. Kasich served as past president, secretary, treasurer and was a 25-year cantor. He was also a member and past president of the church choir. For two terms, he was secretary of the Serbian Church Sabor and was secretary of the building committee for purchasing the church property. He was previously a teacher for the former Serbian School in Farrell, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Kasich was a former treasurer for the Orthodox Men’s Society of the Shenango Valley and lectured for various churches and organizations on political issues.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Semanovich, whom he married November 9, 1974; Alexander Jr., Eugene, Oregon; and John, Austintown, Ohio and a brother, Vukasin, of Lyons, Illinois.

Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
